This Garlic Sesame Dressing Chinese Style is a great idea for packing lunch for school or work

This is one of my go-to school lunch box ideas these days for my kids.

I would make the dressing in advance, store it in a glass bowl in the refrigerator. I would also cook some spaghetti in advance and store it in the refrigerator too. See here for tips on how to cook dry pasta easy and delicious.

In the morning, I would just mix the dressing with cooked spaghetti in a heated hard-anodized fry pan and then garnish with cucumber thin julienne slices, chopped cilantro, and pan-fried peanuts.

This is especially suitable for situations where heating devices such as microwaves are not available. You can eat the Noodle Salad at room temperature. This is important as during the covid-19, kids do not have access to microwaves at school.

How to make an easy and tasty Garlic Sesame Dressing?

Tip No.1 is to roast sesame seeds at home

Since roasted sesame doesn’t stay fresh for very long, it is best just to roast small batches at home and store them in an air-tight glass jar.

Get quality organic raw sesame seeds and store them in an airtight glass jar. At the time, roast a small quantity over the stove using a Wok in under 5 minutes. See here for more details.

While either black or white sesame seeds could work, from an eye-catching point of view, white sesame seeds are more popular to use in Chinese-style dressing. This is because traditional Chinese dressing relies on soy sauce and Zhenjiang vinegar as a dressing base, both are black. The white sesame seeds provide a beautiful contrast of color.

Tip No.2 is to mince garlic using a compact food processor

I use minced garlic often for all kinds of food. Mongolian Beef {P.F. Chang’s Style}, Stir-Fried Beef with Bitter Melon, Di San Xian {Stir Fried Eggplant with Garlic Sauce}, Japanese Ginger Salad Dressing, Sesame Butter Dipping Sauce for Hot Pot, you name it. A compact food processor became very handy to mince the garlic nicely.
