Cinnamon, Clove, Fennel Seeds, and Coriander Seeds Fun Facts

Interestingly enough, three out of the five spices, namely cinnamon, clove, and fennel seeds, are the three key spices going into the iconic Chinese Five-Spice Powder. This is a fact I realized after I have developed this Chai Tea Spice Mix, but a wonderful validation that these three spices are truly among the best of all.

Turmeric is the nature’s wonder of immune booster

Turmeric is a flowering plant in the ginger family, literally called “Ginger Yellow” {姜黄} in Chinese. It has a stunning saturated yellow color. The color might vary per different turmeric species.

The main active ingredient of turmeric is curcumin, which possesses impressive and powerful health benefits. Super rich in anti-inflammatory, antioxidant substances, and an excellent immune booster. People also believes turmeric as an effective brain booster too.

How to make Chai Tea Spice Mix at home in an easy, delicious, and healthy way?

It is super easy to make a delicious and healthy Chai Spice Mix. Just a simple powder blend of cinnamon, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, clove, and turmeric.

Grind the spice into powder

Organic cinnamon powder, clove powder, and turmeric powder are readily available. I typically just get the powder directly. Organic fennel seeds and coriander seeds, however, are usually in the whole seed’s form. But don’t worry, with a spice grinder, you can easily turn the whole seeds into powder.

Remember to use the finest mode on the spice grinder. I typically also go through the grinding process 2 times to have a fine powder.

By the way, this spice grinder is truly a must-have handy kitchen tool. With this, I can grind all kinds of dry spices, including the red yeast rice for Red Braised Pork Belly, Lu Rou Sauce, Char Siu, etc. For the fresh herbs, I use this mini food processor to chop into small pieces.

The perfect ratio among Cinnamon, fennel seeds, clove, and turmeric for best Chai Spice Mix

The ratio among these five spices is important in order to have the perfectly tasty Chai Tea. Among the five spices, use cinnamon powder the most, followed by an equal amount of fennel seeds, coriander seeds and turmeric. Use a much smaller portion of clove.

Use a kitchen scale to help measure. See the Recipe for more details.

Mix well and store in a glass container for daily use

Measure out each spice and add to a 2-cup glass measuring cup. Use a mini whisk and rubber spatula to mix well and then store in a glass container.

With this at hand, you can make a yummy and healthy cup of Chai Tea in no time!
