We enjoyed our Prague family vacation early this summer. Prague is a city of captivating history and a vibrant arts scene. It offers an enchanting blend of old-world charm and modern culture and is famous for its medieval architecture and charming cobblestone streets. The iconic Charles Bridge spans the Vltava River.
We bought the 3-day {72 hours} Prague Visitor Pass. Overall, I think it worked out well, especially since it served as a planner to guide our day-to-day itinerary.
Prague Old Town Square
The Old Town Square is the oldest and most famous square in Prague. Its history dates back to the 10th century. It is a bustling place with lots of historically significant buildings and structures.
Our Prague family vacation started with the Old Town Hall. It was amazing to be able to see the Astronomical Clock from behind and observe the animated Twelve Apostles. Installed in 1410, Astronomical Clock is one of the world’s oldest and most complex. We also got a chance to visit the underground and imagine how 10th wealthy families went through their lives.
Of course, you won’t miss the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, the beautiful Gothic Church featuring its distinguished twin spires.
After visiting the Old Town Hall, we had our lunch at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the amazing view of the old town square.
Prague Castle
After lunch, we went to Prague Castle, which is an amazingly large complex. Dubbed the largest ancient castle in the world, it is a must-see for Prague Family Vacation. Founded in the 9th century it has been home to Czech kings, emperors, and presidents. The impressive St Vitus Cathedral is on the Prague Castle grounds.
Charles Bridge, Old Town Bridge Tower
Charles Bridge is where musicians, artists, and stunning Gothic architecture views over the Vltava River meet together to create an enchanting experience.
The Petrin Tower
The Petřín Tower, perched on Petřín Hill in Prague, is a steel structure resembling the Eiffel Tower, built in 1891 as part of the Jubilee Exhibition. Standing 63.5 meters tall, it offers panoramic views of Prague and the surrounding countryside, accessible via a climb of 299 steps or an elevator. The tower is surrounded by picturesque gardens and pathways, making it a popular destination for both sightseeing and leisurely walks.
We used the Prague Visitor Pass and took the elevator up. It is worth mentioning that it took us a while to find the elevator station, which is somewhat hidden. The rose garden leading to the tower is beautiful. A mirror maze and carousel are on the complex, which was also included in the Prague Visitor Pass, which we surprisingly enjoyed very much.
What did we remember about the Prague Vacation?
My boys and I climbed all the towers and enjoyed the beautiful view. It rained on and off, but overall not too bad since the rain didn’t last long. We tried the well-known Prague Chimney cake. It is essentially a freshly toasted donut filled with ice cream.
One thing I was hoping to visit but regretfully missed is Clementium, which is Prague’s second-largest building complex after Prague Castle and houses the world’s most beautiful library. That just gave me reasons to revisit Prague later.
