Steak Fajitas using a homemade seasoning blend are easy, yummy, and healthy. I use the same seasoning to make the Chicken Fajitas.
How to blend a homemade from scratch Fajitas seasoning?
It is easier than you think to blend a scratch Fajitas seasoning at home. All you need is minced garlic, cumin, a combination of chili powder and paprika, black pepper, and salt.
The iconic flavor is largely driven by cumin, chili, and black pepper. I source the organic wholesome herbs and then grind them at home using a spice grinder. It makes a huge difference in terms of taste. For chili powder, I use the classic long-string-shaped Sichuan chili or Korean chili, which boasts a bright red color and delicious flavor. As for black pepper, I opt for the world-renowned organic Tellicherry whole black peppercorns.
How to make the steak juicy and tasty for Steak Fajitas?
You do not need to buy expensive flank steak to make a yummy Steak Fajitas. I usually get the chuck, the inexpnsive steak. The key is to slice/cut the steak into 3 layers of thin meat. This way, not only do you get more volume of the steak, but also makes the steak easier to cook, juicier, and more delicious.
After you’ve got the thin slices of steak, soak them in cold water to get rid of the blood, while you are preparing for vegetables.
What kind of vegetables are best for the Steak Fajitas?
For peppers, it is important to get green, red, and orange bell peppers. Not only does it offer color variety, but also flavors.
Steak Fajitas Recipe {Easy Healthy and Yummy Way}
Steak Fajitas using a homemade seasoning blend are easy, yummy, and healthy. You can use the same seasoning for making the Chicken Fajitas.
Ingredients
- 2.5 lb - 3 lb chuck steak
- 6 tbsp cooking oil, avocado oil or olive oil
- 3/4 tsp salt, such as Himalayan pink salt
- 3/4 tsp black pepper
- 3 lb of vegetable mix, including 1 red onion, 2 green bell pepper. 2 red pepper and 1 orange bell pepper
- 1 lime juice
Fajitas Seasoning Blend:
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 2 tsp cumin, freshly ground
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 1.5 tsp salt
Instructions
- Slice a regular chuck steak into 3-4 thin layers and soak them in cold water. You can break down the steak into parts per the fat line. Rinse a couple of times. Gently squeeze out the water and place it on a plate.
- Mix the 3/4 tsp salt and black pepper in a small dish. Add everything under "For Fajitas Seasoning Blend" to a plate and mix well.
- I use a 14" nonstick frying pan to sear the steak and cook the Steak Fajitas. Turn the heat to medium-high and heat the pan for 1 minute. Sprinkle about 2.5 tbsp avocado oil, spread it out to evenly cover the pan's base, and then lay flat about half of the steak pieces on the pan. Sprinkle the salt and black pepper mix evenly on the steak, and cook for about 2 minutes.
- Flip the steak, sprinkle the salt/black pepper evenly on the steak, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Place the seared steak on a plate. Repeat to finish sear the other half of the steak pieces.
- Prepare the vegetables. Wash the peppers and cut them into julienne slices. Trim both ends of the red onion, peel the outer layer, and vertically cut into slices. By now, the seared steak is not hot to the touch. Cut the seared steak into julienne slices too.
- No need to wash the frying pan. Turn the heat back to medium-high, add about 1 tbsp avocado oil, and then the pepper slices and half of the red onion slices. Use a pair of bamboo spatulas to toss and turn for about 2 minutes, or till fragrant.
- Add the previously seared beef and the fajitas seasoning, continue to toss and turn for about 2 minutes.
- Turn off the heat, add the rest of the red onion slices, continue to toss, and turn until fully blended. Squeeze one lime juice and pour over the fajitas in a circular motion.
- All done. Enjoy the naturally yummy Steak Fajitas.
Notes
- The chuck steak is usually between 2.5 lb and 3 lb for each pack. I cook the whole steak which does produce a large amount of steak fajitas, enough for 3 meals for 4 adults.
- Steak Fajitas is freezer friendly.
