Wrap Jiao Zi Step One – Position the wrapper in one hand and then add fillings

Open left-hand palm (the less dominant hand) with four adjacent fingers form a flat platform and place one wrapper onto the platform. Add about two teaspoonfuls of filling to the center of the wrapper.

Step Two – Fold the wrapper in half and press in the middle and seal

Use the right-hand thumb and index finger to hold the edge of the one side of the wrapper and lift and fold over until the edge reaches the other side, and then press to seal both sides together.

Adjust the left hand holding position so that the sealed part is facing straight up. Now the dumpling is sitting comfortably on the platform.

Step Three: Pleat while sealing around the edge of the wrapper

Starting from one side, pleat and press to seal around the edge.

Do this either using two hands together,

or using the dominant hand while the less dominant hand holding the Jiao Zi.

Step Four: Wrap-Up and Seal the Corners Securely

Quickly and gently press and seal around the entire edge. Pay special attention to both corners, make sure you securely press and seal them.

That’s it. Congratulations! You have successfully learned to fold a dumpling.

Tips Of Using Store-Bought Wrappers

Store-bought wrappers are more stiff compared to the home freshly made wrappers. As a result, they are harder to press and seal together. Dab some water around the area using your fingers where you aim for pressing will help.
