Dandelion Root Coffee alternative is a naturally caffeine-free superfood, having a deep coffee-like aroma and taste. Whether you drink black or add milk with sugar, it tastes delicious. What’s more, dandelion root is a superfood containing many essential nutrients.
Dandelion Root offers amazing health benefits
It is perhaps the most well-known weed across the globe, but dandelion also enjoys an incredible reputation for its superfood status.
Dandelion root contains a high amount of carbohydrate inulin, one kind of soluble fiber that promotes a healthy gut. The whole dandelion plant, including the leaves and roots, is rich in antioxidants which help fend off free radicals and inflammation, promote liver health, and boost immune health.
In addition, dandelion root can also potentially lower blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, hence improving heart health.
Also, dandelion is a natural diuretic substance, thus helping lower blood pressure. Besides, dandelion is rich in minerals such as potassium, a mineral that helps decrease blood pressure. For this reason, dandelion is an excellent DASH food. {Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension}.
Older research even indicated that dandelion root might potentially boost the regeneration of new skin cells, which makes dandelion root an anti-aging food.
How to make a dandelion root coffee alternative at home?
The first thing first is to roast dandelion root
Sure you can dig up a dandelion, wash and dry them to get the dried dandelion root. Lucky for us, we also have the option of getting organic cut and sifted dandelion root relatively easily online.
Unlike homemade Chai Tea or homemade Herbal Detox tea, let’s roast the dandelion root for an enhanced aroma and flavor.
By the way, the wok is a very handy kitchen gadget, not only to make stir fry but also for steaming and roasting.
The second is to use a spice grinder to grind the roasted dandelion root
Remember not to over-fill the spice grinder. Use the finest setting on the spice/coffee grinder once. Do not over-grind dandelion root and turn it into overly fine powder. It is the same thing about coffee. The overly fine powder impacts the taste negatively and brings out the extra bitterness.
Last but not least is to brew roasted dandelion root coffee
Brew the dandelion root coffee the same way you brew coffee. My favorite ways include using a French Press or tea set with a fine mesh strainer.
